Running muscles! Wednesday 24th April, strength and conditioning.

Lift off with strong muscles.

Lift off with strong muscles.

We’ve just had another wondrous weekend of running. The sun was shining for our Bluebell 10k and 10 milers and our weekly Sunday run club. It doesn’t stop there as there’s always new goals to aim for on our running calendar.

In order to achieve our running dreams, improve our performance and prevent injury from kicking in, we need to do regular strength and conditioning. It can be a costly decision not to include strength work in your training. The session will be quite dynamic with some floor work included. If you are coming along, would like a lift or have any questions then please leave a comment.

What to bring: If you do have a mat then bring it along. There are spares.

Meet: The lawns adjacent to King Alfred car park (bottom of Hove Street) 7.30 – 8.30pm

£5 drop in.

Beauty & the beast training run, Sunday 21st April

time to ditch the thermals?

time to ditch the thermals?

Whether you are a beg-int looking for a fun group to run with, or you are part of our crew training for the beginners Kamikaze Adventure Race, South Downs or Seaford Half Marathon & Tough Mudder foundation runs – you’ll love this Sunday’s training run.

We will be offering a 3miles (beg-int, Kamikaze teams) run, along with a six mile tarmac to off-road route that will go out over Rottingdean to Saltdean and return (longer route) and a small loop for the shorter distance.

It is a beautiful run (and the forecast is for blue skies) but there is a hill – hence the beast!

But our run ambassadors and coaches will ensure we are there to help coax you up the hill – and it will make you stronger.

And for the advanced, faster runners amongst you, we have a twist. …You’ll just have to come along and see what it is!

Drop ins are welcome at £10 but package prices are also available (missed or going to miss a Sunday session the package? use against our yoga classes on Monday).

PLEASE COMMENT HERE IF YOU ARE COMING AND TO WHICH DISTANCE.

Please be on time as we will be leading a dynamic warm up at 8.30am which you will require.

The longer route – run along the river. Sunday 6th January. 10 miles.

Hurrah no hills!

A scenic start to 2013.

It’s our first Sunday training session of 2013 and we’re ready to make dreams a reality. Whether it’s to improve general fitness, gain a pb, run your first marathon, enjoy a social run or lose some Christmas pounds, our sessions are a great way to meet your goals and keep you focused.

Half and full marathon training are both 10 miles this Sunday and it’s flat. For those who are training for the full marathon you will be encouraged to work on negative splits, running the second half at a slightly faster pace. If you learn to conserve your resources for the first part of the run, they’ll be available to you in the later stage as you pass the surviving shufflers.

Pace for your race. Wednesday 14th November

Inspired by sporting hero’s?

Although running is a year round activity, there’s no denying we’ve hit training season again. Our training plans for the Brighton half and full marathon have begun and it is the last training session before the Brookes 10k and the Spartan race.

Pace is the name of the game this Wednesday. For Sundays 10k runners, it will give you one last training boost and an opportunity to ask any race day preparation questions. Spartan girls, they’ll be no obstacles but a chance to build up running performance ( or possibly a small obstacle as extra training!)

If you are starting out on the half or full marathon training, this is the key to your training. Do not be fooled into thinking it is all about our Sunday longer runs (however these sessions are just as important). Wednesdays sessions cover all the other elements required to prevent over training and injury. We will establish a suitable pace for every individual that will work you at a comfortably hard pace, to boost your endurance for longer runs. As always all abilities are welcome, whether you are running a race or you run for general fitness and please comment if you can make this session.

Sunday Run Fun! 21st October.

Start spreading the news…. Fitbitch’s run and have fun!

Lake Garda may be over but let the training continue. The Brooks 10k and Spartan Beast are the next events on our running calendar but you don’t need to be taking part in these to join in the FitBitch run fun.

This Sunday we are offering three distances which are 4, 5 and 8 miles. Once again all distances are starting out together, setting off from the Tesco Express car park in Rottingdean and heading over the Downs. The 4 and 5 mile routes stay on the same course which turns downhill back into Rottingdean. While the 8 mile route continues towards Woodingdean, winding up (this may be the only non chatty part of the run!) through the Snake climb before running down a slight decline back towards Rottingdean.

Whatever the weather this will be a scenic Autumn run that has a mix of terrain and gradient. The muscles and cardiovascular system get a good workout and there’s support from our coaches and running ambassadors.

When you comment please put your distance down so we can allocate the two running ambassadors accordingly.

Meet: Rottingdean High Street, Tesco Express car park.

Time: 8:30 am

Coaches: 8 miles – Kate (07702983744) 5 miles – Melissa (07894146016) 4 miles – Rachael (07855742195)

Stanmer Park run. Sunday 20th May.

Even in the rain, there’s always smiles.

We may finally be blessed with some sunshine for our woodland run on Sunday. Stanmer Park is the perfect location to mix up the terrain and vary the distances. Friston Forest runners, this might be your first off road experience and I am certain you’ll be hooked. The scenery is stunning, making you feel completely out of the city. Hills and trail running are an excellent way to condition the muscles and give the joints a rest from the pavement pounding.

For our shorter routes of 3 and 4 miles we have Tor our running ambassador who is always very motivating and has been there as a beginner to hill running not so long ago. I can’t guarantee you’ll be getting a piggy back but Tor will encourage and wait for every runner doing this distance.

The longer route of 7.5 miles is going further towards Ditchling Beacon before back into the park. Both distances do have some flat road and downhill. See, we are considerate to you.

If you can offer or require a lift then please mention it in your comment.

Lead coach: Kate 07702983744

Ambassador: Tor

Meet: car park as you turn immediately left from A27 entrance. (straight after the two houses as you enter the park)

Steady run Sunday. Between 3 mile and 7 mile options.

It may sound mad to some, but a perfect start to a Sunday morning is a steady run with other females who are out to keep up or improve their fitness levels. Sunday is always our longer run. Pace and distance is relative to where you are in your training programme. Our Sunday runs are about helping and motivating you to increase your distance and fitness levels. Nobody gets left behind as our Running Ambassadors are there to support you. We take you on some fantastic training routes that make you really appreciate the local surroundings.

All three distances (3, 4 and 7 miles) start out together, heading from Hove seafront to Hove Park where the 3 mile turns back and the 4 mile route includes a lap of the park which includes some gradient. The longer route of 7 miles takes us up towards Devils Dyke. Perfect terrain for week two of Friston Forest training.

Please leave a comment stating which distance you are planning to do.

Meet: Hove Promenade, behind King Alfred.

When: 8:30am

Lead Coach: Kate 07702983744

Running Ambassador: Melanie Lankester

Marathon training. Sunday 11th March.

We are now up to 17 miles in our training and once again this Sundays course is a mix of views, hills, coast and even a vineyard (not that we will be stopping for a glass of wine!)

The course is starting with our other training groups, who are  running up to the first 12 miles. We will then head in a different direction, covering the section of the course that turns at Rottingdean, heading towards Roedean before going back inland to our starting point.

As with other weeks, we welcome any new Female runners to our group. If you are a lone runner and finding the need for company on these long runs, then this is your answer. As long as you have covered up to 15 miles in your current training. We have runners training for the either the Brighton and London marathon.

Make sure you have prepared yourself adequately with fuel and hydration. Any questions please call Kate on the number below.

The route is mapped for those who have paid for the plan or are subscribed to our running club.

Location: Rottingdean, Tesco Metro car park (free before 9am, and then fairly cheap)

Time: 8.30am

Coach: Kate 07702983744

Training this Sunday: get your location right

Just a quick post to ensure you all take note of the places to meet for your training run this Sunday. Because we are now training three different groups for different races, we are starting in different locations.

The marathon group in one place, and everyone else in another. However, one thing we did forget to put on those wanting to do 8miles on Sunday. You will need to meet us at Hove Park on the corner of Goldstone Crescent and Woodland Drive at 8.40am. Those doing the 10miles will start at the seafront and we will pick up the second group going by. Any questions? Comment here.

Here’s a link to a map of Hove Park – 8milers meet at the far end of the park http://g.co/maps/kgwy4

FitBitches at the Brighton Half Marathon – are you ready to join?

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Congratulations to all our the incredible FitBitches who ran this weekend’s Brighton Half Marathon. If you’re reading this and thinking, ‘Ooh, yes but they’re proper runners. I couldn’t do that.’

They are all runners, but around half of they started from not being able to run 5k. And they have got to where they are now, not through blood and tears but with laughter and new-found friends.

If you want to train with us and transform your running or experience of running, now is the time to join us. We’re training for 10ks, (BlueBell Run, April 29th), Half Marathon, 25ks and Brighton Full Marathon.

Drop in for training either Wednesday or Sunday, or pay for a package of runs and a training plan. We are a women’s running group but we focus on the individual.

And special mention must be given to Elsbeth Hayde for her genius cut off tights to keep her arms warm. And the attention to detail from Belinda Muir. The new wait listed Chanel nail varnish to match her sunglasses (she said it wasn’t deliberate. Yeah, yeah).
