Sun, sea, sheep & smiles – training session sunday 3rd July

Escape to the country this Sunday

This week, our Sunday training session will seek out sun, sea, sheep and smiles as we take to the South Downs. We will start our run at Brighton Marina with a gentle run along the flat coastal path towards the windmill at Rottingdean. Then it’s all off-road as we make our way north up into the beautiful Downs. The climb is gradual with amazing views and birdsong all the way. There are points where the peace and quiet and 360 degree views of the Downs will make you think you are miles from anywhere, despite being a short hop from Woodingdean. We’ll meander through the hills with glimpses of the sea before a long fun downhill alongside the racehorses and back to sea-level.

The run is strength and endurance focused. By using your body weight as resistance to push against uphill, you’ll gain leg strength. In addition, your aerobic fitness will improve and your metabolism will get a boost. Why not use this as part of your training plan if you are looking to run further, to increase leg strength and help prevent injury, or just as a sociable pre-breakfast jog.

It will be at a moderate pace, so it is suitable for all abilities and it also means you can enjoy the scenery! There are two options; Melissa will take the full 9 mile route. Sian will take the 4 mile route which will turn off to Ovingdean and follow a shorter route through the chalky hills back to the Marina.
