Over the course of the last three years, we at Fitbitch Running Club have taught hundreds of women how to run, and run well.

And we have also added fun to the mix, with holidays to international race destinations including Palma, Berlin, Lisbon, Paris, and Lake Garda.

If you want to set yourself a focus to get you through the summer months, with the reward of a fab mini break at the end, don’t miss our next trip to Amsterdam for the Marathon or Half Marathon or 10k

Book a package with us (you can arrive any day between Friday 18th and Sat 19th October and depart Monday or Tues) and you will get accommodation in the uber chic, eco design Conscious Hotel VondelPark, cycling distance to the centre and within walking distance of some of the city’s best museums & galleries.

Package price includes:

  • Accommodation on a buffet breakfast basis on a shared twin room basis  (travelling alone and don’t want to share? Single supplements apply)
  • Race pack pick up and collection at a designated time in the hotel where possible
  • Guided Transfer via public transport to the race start (cost of the transfer itself is not included)
  • In hotel race weekend rep at designated times
  • Optional excursions including post race celebration meals, Spa trips, cycling trips and more (all costing additional)

Package prices

  • 2 nights accommodation, £165
  • 3 nights accommodation, £213

Amsterdam is more expensive than many other cities we have visited but this represents a good discount on prices (4 nights booking direct via the hotel costs £357.99 pp)

Please read our terms and conditions and complete the booking form. A non-refundable deposit of £100 is due on booking, and the cost of the full package trip must be settled by 1st September 2013.

Berlin, Lisbon, Palma, Lake Garda, Paris…just some of the renowned international Fitibtch race weekends.

Are you ready to join our next one?

Come and join us in Amsterdam this October and run the Mizuno Half or Full Marathon on October 20th.

You will need to pay for your own entry, and organise your flights yourself (BA are currently the cheapest at £99 flying out Friday returning Monday or Tuesday) and you can leave all the rest to us.

This will include

  • accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis in a good quality hotel near to the centre with good transport links
  • Picking up of race packs on the weekend
  • Guided transfer by public transport to the race start to ensure you get there on time and feeling calm
  • Early pre-race breakfast at the hotel
  • Saturday morning 5k sightseeing run (optional)
  •  Saturday explore Amsterdam by bike tour (optional)
  • Celebration cocktails and dinner post race Sunday (optional)
  • Recovery spa (optional)

We are currently researching the best hotels in terms of price, quality and location and plan to have confirmed this in the next few weeks.

It will be a good quality, bespoke hotel (we don’t do budget hostels, backpackers or dorms) near to the city centre and transport links. Prices are not cheap though – be warned!

On booking the trip with us, you will be required to pay a non-refundable deposit of £50 towards the package.

We will send you a booking form, and unless you tell us who you are sharing with, we will designate you a room mate.

If you prefer a room on your own, single supplements will apply. In some cases we may need you to share a triple, in which case rooms will be cheaper.

More details about package terms and conditions once the hotel has been confirmed.

If you are a definite though for the weekend with us –  we urge you to book your flight NOW. We are flying out Friday 18.00pm on BA, departing Tues 10.55am.

And guess what? There is an electronic dance convention that same weekend (good but bad…means hotels and flights are booking FAST!)

If you want a weekend of running, fantastic food, culture, spa trips and lots of fun, don’t miss it!

Race training starts in July, August or September depending on your level – and race distance.

Upcoming races and an important deadline!

Fitbitches take on Spartan

Fitbitches take on Spartan

Over the next week, we will be releasing our race and training groups for the coming year, including our next international in Amsterdam in October.

Also, please note that on Easter Weekend, our training run will switch to Good Friday (more details soon). There will be no run on Easter Sunday.

BUT first up, a deadline on a race of a different kind…Tough Mudder down South

The deadline for £15 discount on entry is TODAY AT MIDNIGHT, 7th March. Even with this discount the race is £80 (including insurance) although you will get £10 rebate because of our group entry.

This is a TEAM event and is for those who are looking for something a little different than running.

All the details about what you need to do, how to do it etc, ARE ON THIS LINK HERE  Any questions, call me 07855 742195.

Don’t worry if you don’t know anyone else – we fielded a team of 20 at a similar event last November and we became a very tight knit team and had loads of fun!

Beginner Runners & Beyond – the new season

Don’t miss our next beginners to 10 package for the Brooks 10k starting Weds 24th September

Signed up for the Brighton marathon – don’t miss the  start of our training particularly if you are a beginner – 29th October

If you are already part of our running community, you will have seen all our pictures from our recent race at the Firle Half Marathon and 10k last weekend.

It was a fantastic day of incredible achievements from all. Over a third of our runners  started as beginners, so huge congratulations to Suzy Curd on her first ever half marathon (and a huuugely hilly one!) and our first time 10k runners (or first for a while!) Amy, Kathryn, Penny and Sara who only joined us just a little over eight weeks ago.

And to Karen Napleton who was the third fastest female and Suzanne Ford who showed amazing grit and determination. So many runners to mention but you were all fab!

If you have been inspired by them, or run in Firle and are now looking for your next challenge – or just a race to help you maintain your newfound running mojo, here are our next upcoming dates for 2012 and beyond (the first date indicates the race date – some tbc as they are not released yet, and the second when training starts).

If you would like to join us, you can come to any session for £5 drop in or book a package of runs (currently only the Brooks 10k package is available for booking online and our annual membership – new prices will be released for remaining packages).

Please note, we will also be releasing two ‘performance’ events next season including an adventure race and a further trail race for those looking for something different.

The Speed or Ease Run, Sun 2nd September

Hurrah no hills!

Whether you are a beginner who has just joined us for training for the Rise 8k Undercliff Run for Women, or one of group training for Garda or Firle, this Sunday’s training run is for you.

We will forgo the hills this week so that it is suitable for all, including those who have been on holiday over the last two weeks and may have slipped behind on their training plan (I know, very unlikely. Ahem).

If you are up to date on your plan, then in place of hills focus on pace throughout this run.

We will be offering the following distances in accordance with the training plans for races that we are currently working toward.

12miles for the Lake Garda 30k

5 – 8 miles for the Firle Half Marathon, and Garda 15k crew

3 miles for the beginners to Rise 8k

The route is straightforward, out and back along the River Adur starting at Shoreham by Sea, and running along the tow path past the colourful Shoreham houseboats to start.

It means that should you wish to run further – or less – there is the option to do so (although please note that unless you are used to running DON’T increase your mileage beyond your training plan or you risk injury).

In the middle distance group in particular, you will be required to buddy up so that if you are returning before the 4mile turn point (for 8miles) you are running back with someone.

Location: Meet car park at Shoreham By Sea just off Riverside, link here. It is free before 9am, thereafter fairly cheap

Time: 8.30am

Rachael, 12 miles (07855 742195)

Melissa, 5-8miles (07894 146016)

Kate, 3miles (07702 983744)

Running Ambassadors: Melanie Anning (short) Karen Russell (long)

NEW beginner’s & returners groups starting

Want to learn how to run, or get to the stage where it feels easier?

Or can you already run but just want to get to the stage where you can run for longer?

Then join our next beginners and returners to running groups.

Our next 0 to 10k beginners group starts 18th July.

This will follow an eight week training programme to 10k, finishing with your race goal of either the Firle 7miles on 9th September, Regents Park 10k on Sept 2nd or the Hove Prom 10k on September 10th.

Price: £43 for 8 runs or £71, for 15 runs, including a training plan and race t-shirt.

The first session on Weds 18th July will be a biomechanics session where we will assess your gait, posture and running style to help you build the foundations of a healthy, injury free, efficient runner.

10k to Firle Half Marathon group, starts 2nd July

This will follow a ten week programme training for the Firle Half Marathon on 9th September so you must be able to run 10k comfortably already.

Price: £51 for 10 runs or £87 for 19 runs, including a training plan plus race t-shirt.

To book email clearly stating your name, which package (including the number of runs) that you wish to purchase and the size of t-shirt.

Please note that this cost does not cover entry fees to the race. Training is on Weds at 7.30pm and Sunday’s at 8.30am. YOu need to subscribe to this site for information about the training runs which we publish on a weekly basis.

Join the Garda crew – October 14th

Our next international running date is gathering momentum with a fantastic group of women all training together for one of three races around the beautiful Lake Garda.

If you want to join the group, we are doing a (huge) group race entry NOW.

If you’ve been thinking about it but haven’t got around to getting in touch do it  now!

Sign up with us now and you will get the benefits of a FitBitch discount. If you leave it, you are welcome to still come with the group but you will have to do your own race entry (we will organise everything else for an admin fee of £35, or less if you book the package).

So get in touch NOW if you haven’t already done so with your details.

Training for an event is one of the best ways to keep in shape over the summer, and if you’re new to running, the most effective way to build your distance. Why?

1. You start training with a group of women all at the same level as you – they won’t let you not turn up to training!

2. It’s fun to train in the summer. Less rain, more sunshine, no snow.

3. Your reward is not just a medal with a ribbon around it. It’s cocktails on the edge of Lake Garda in the sunshine afterwards!

5. There’s gelato. Lots of it.

Training dates start:

15k training starts 6th August

30k training starts 25th June

Marathon training – already started but it’s not too late to join

FitBitches in Lake Garda: 15k, 30k or Marathon

Have you been inspired by our runners who recently ran in the Berlin Half Marathon and 25k?

Or have you simply looked at the photographs and thought, ‘Ohh, that looks like a good excuse for a holiday?’

Well, now is your chance to be part of our friendly crew training for our next  international race in the beautiful Lake Garda on October 14th.

What is so fantastic about this race destination (er, aside from the food, the sunny weather, the lake side swimming, the Prosecco, the gelato…ooh, the list goes on) is the fact that there is a race distance to suit all.

Choose from 15k (perfect for those wanting their next challenge after a 10k, or those wanting to focus on improving their speed), 30k (bored of half marathons and looking to see what it feels like to run just a few more miles) and the full marathon, for those who have got the Big M bug.

How does it work? You can either choose a package from the one below, which includes a free training plan and a race t-shirt, or continue to pay for drop in sessions.

In addition, we will be levying a small administrative fee for organising hotels, meals, transfers and more. This will be £20 for those booking a package, £35 for those doing drop ins. (This will rise to £45 from August 1st).

It does not include the cost of flights, transfers or accommodation (although we will arrange all of this except flight bookings).

We have already looked into flights and accommodation and you can budget as follows, although depending on how many book, we may get a discount on hotel rates.

Bed and breakfast, 40euros pp per night

Flights to Verona with Easy Jet, currently under £100 return (Rachael is flying out Thursday EasyJet departure 10am, arriving 1pm. Er, and not coming back until Thursday!)

Transfer to Lake Garda, 40euros return

Race entry 12-25 euros according to race (please bear in mind there is usually a rental fee for the race chip too). WE WILL BE ATTEMPTING TO DO A GROUP RACE ENTRY SO YOU DON’T NEED TO REGISTER YOURSELF UNLESS YOU WANT.

Choose your package (these prices all include the admin fee). The half package can be used against either Wednesday or Sunday runs.

15k Race Ten week training starts w/c 27th August

Half package of 10 runs,  £71

Full package of 19 runs, £107

30k Race 16 Week training starts w/c 2nd July

Half package of 16 runs, £95

Full package of 31 runs, £155

Marathon, 20 week training starts w/c 4th June

Half package of 20 runs, £187

Full package of 39 runs, £111

Alternatively,  you could also book an annual membership, which covers everything but the admin fee (this will be £35 if choosing this option), for the entire year of packages! A bargain at £250.

Registration for Lake Garda opens Monday 11th May. It may be better to wait until registration is confirmed before booking flights although there are so many distances to choose we would assume it will not be a problem.

What do you do now? Email with the following information in this order

Date of Birth:

Estimated finish time: (not sure? 1hr 45 for 15k beginners, 3hrs for 30k beginners, who knows for marathon?!)

Days of arrival/departure if known

How to pay? We will send you our bank details. Registration to the race will not be done until we have received payment.

**Please note, race fees and package fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Wednesday Welcome to New & regular FitBitch Runners

Revelling in the glory of running. Next stop, Berlin.

Whether you are a regular FitBitch runner, or a completely new to FitBitch (or to running), this Wednesday’s session is not to be missed.

It will be at Hove Lawns, adjacent to Hove Street South, at 7.30pm. Parking in King Alfred centre car park. We’ll be looking at biomechanics, technique and a pace run for Berlin runners.

This is also an opportunity to meet all three running coaches, Rachael, Kate and Melissa, as well as our team of running ambassadors, Tor, Karen, Melanie and er, Melanie.

Who, and what are, FB running ambassadors? They are women just like YOU. Most started as beginners with us, and have now run a few half marathons and even marathons between them.

They are now part of our friendly crew, who are here to help YOU on Sunday runs. They will use their experience to help you run that extra mile, or up that hill, when everything in your brain is telling you to stop.

Why are they qualified? Because they’ve been there and done it – muscles screaming, lungs on fire , but they’ve got up that hill, and overcome that obstacle. (Plus, they have all been trained at our Running School).

This is also an opportunity to discuss up coming training packages for forthcoming events, and our run specific training, for those who have entered other races and want to ensure they get the right type of training.

Want to know what we’ve got lined up, and which package/race might suit you? Read on…

Our training packages include:

Friston Forest 10k, Sunday June 24th. Who is this best for? Beginners who want to train to 10k, and those who can already run 10k who want to focus on speed, and tackling hills. (Scan down our blog posts for training package costs).

Brighton Trail Blazer, 10km Trail Race, Sunday 29th July. Who is this best for? Everyone and anyone who wants to explore the Downs on a beautiful sunny morning. If you miss the Friston Forest package, join us for this.

Firle 7mile and Half Marathon, September 30th. Who is this best for? Beginners who want to train to 7miles, and those who have tackled BlueBell and Friston Forest who want to take on a half marathon. (package prices to come).

Rise The Undercliff Run for Women, October 7th. Who is this for? Everyone but particularly beginners as it is a flat route (although not necessarily wind-free!) and all for women.

Royal Parks Half Marathon, October 7th. Who is this best for? Anyone looking for a  half marathon challenge. That said, it’s sold out so you need to sign up for a charity if you want to do this.(package prices to come)

Fun in the Sun! Lake Garda 15k (less than 10miles) and Marathon, October 14th. Who is this best for? Anyone who wants a rewarding holiday with a group of like minded women!

Also for those who want to go beyond 10k, but don’t want to spend the summer putting in miles for a half marathon.(15k is just under 10miles) Plus our more experienced runners who would really like to smash their PBs by working on speed.

Er, and those who have got the marathon bug, or want to pop their marathon cherry! (package prices to come).

Run Specific Training geared to the following:

South Downs Half Marathon, Sunday 9th June. Who is this best for? Those who are already up to 10miles, who want to focus on building distance and mastering hills.

Spartan Super Sprint,  Redhill, Sunday July 22nd. Who is this best for? Those who just want to get fit and don’t want to run miles (it’s only 3miles) and for the seasoned FitBitch runner who wants to add a different element to training – you’ll be amazed at how obstacles change your running experience!

North Devon Half Marathon, Sunday 24th June. Who is this best for? As above

Whether you are part of our club, a complete beginner, returning to running or just want to be part of a friendly, sociable and inspirational women’s running revolution, NOW is the time!

Please comment here if you are coming, and tell us which runs you are interested in. Don’t worry, commenting here is no obligation!

See you on Wednesday, rain, shine, wind or snow!

Super Sunday, April 22nd, Bluebell & London

One last good luck to our London marathon runners tomorrow – you’ll be great!

And to our new beginners’ group who have trained up to the 10k Bluebell Trail race.

Let us also not forget our  10mile runners who are also doing BlueBell tomorrow who got missed off the last post.

To reiterate, both the 10miles group AND the 10k group will meet here (we’ll be there from about 9.50am) and we will do a warm up together.

Don’t forget to bring something warm to change into – your body temperature drops QUICKLY once you stop running.

See you there, Rachael and Melissa
