The River Run, Sun Sept 23

the houseboast of Shoreham,

Whether you are a regular runner, or one that has just started out with us, this week’s route is a great one for all.

A good introduction to off-road running for those doing the shorter distance (4.5miles) it is flat, going past the characterful houseboats of Shoreham and going out along the River Adur where your feet and ankles will get  used to running on uneven terrain without hills.

Don’t want to run 4.5miles? No problem because on this run you can just turn back and follow the river back to the start (making sure you let one of our Run Ambassadors know you are returning earlier).

For our runners training for Lake Garda, it is now three weeks until race day and just two weeks for our runners training for the Rise 8k.

Garda training groups can choose between 8 miles (15k girls) and 17 miles (27.5kms) as per the training plan for those running 30k in Italy. Those who are training for 15k who want to go longer let us know and we can add on 1 or two miles extra.

For those going long, our terrain will vary with a few hills as we leave the river and head into the country, before dropping down through Lancing to the seafront and back to Shoreham, allowing us to pick up our feet and power back to base for a final lap around Shoreham to the finish.

Last week, we  had fields of cows, rivers full of swans and blackberry bushes galore. What will it be this time?!

Come and get your usual Sunday endorphins this weekend!

PLEASE COMMENT HERE IF YOU ARE COMING AND WHICH DISTANCE. IF GOING LONG, PLEASE BRING WATER AND EAT APPROPRIATELY. IT IS A LONG WAY TO GO WITHOUT WATER.

The Speed or Ease Run, Sun 2nd September

Hurrah no hills!

Whether you are a beginner who has just joined us for training for the Rise 8k Undercliff Run for Women, or one of group training for Garda or Firle, this Sunday’s training run is for you.

We will forgo the hills this week so that it is suitable for all, including those who have been on holiday over the last two weeks and may have slipped behind on their training plan (I know, very unlikely. Ahem).

If you are up to date on your plan, then in place of hills focus on pace throughout this run.

We will be offering the following distances in accordance with the training plans for races that we are currently working toward.

12miles for the Lake Garda 30k

5 – 8 miles for the Firle Half Marathon, and Garda 15k crew

3 miles for the beginners to Rise 8k

The route is straightforward, out and back along the River Adur starting at Shoreham by Sea, and running along the tow path past the colourful Shoreham houseboats to start.

It means that should you wish to run further – or less – there is the option to do so (although please note that unless you are used to running DON’T increase your mileage beyond your training plan or you risk injury).

In the middle distance group in particular, you will be required to buddy up so that if you are returning before the 4mile turn point (for 8miles) you are running back with someone.

PLEASE COMMENT HERE IF YOU ARE COMING AND WHICH DISTANCE YOU PLAN ON. THIS IS VITAL AS IT ENABLES US TO PLAN ACCORDINGLY FOR THE RUN.

ALSO COMMENT IF YOU NEED A LIFT AS SOMEONE WILL BE ABLE TO PICK YOU UP AND DROP YOU OFF.

Location: Meet car park at Shoreham By Sea just off Riverside, link here. It is free before 9am, thereafter fairly cheap

Time: 8.30am

Coaches:

Rachael, 12 miles (07855 742195)

Melissa, 5-8miles (07894 146016)

Kate, 3miles (07702 983744)

Running Ambassadors: Melanie Anning (short) Karen Russell (long)

PLEASE NOTE, THERE WILL BE NO RUN TRAINING NEXT WEEKEND. THE FIRLE HALF MARATHON AND 10K RACE WILL BE TAKING PART FOR OUR FIRLE GROUP, WHILE THIS RACE WILL FORM AN IMPORTANT TRAINING RUN FOR OUR GARDA GROUP.

Sea to Downs Training, Sunday 12th August

Nothing beats a Sunday run on the Downs

Beginners got their first taste of the beauty of off road running last weekend and we continue this week with this stunning sea to downs run.

Starting at Brighton Marina, you will run along the cliff path heading to Rottingdean before climbing up past the windmill and looking out over the azure green sea. It’s a beautiful run and ends on a downhill.

This is a five mile run but if you wish to go shorter, you can join us and turn before we head up on to the Downs as the route is straightforward until this point.
For those going longer there are three distances, 10, 11 or 12miles. PLEASE stick to the distance you should be doing on your training plan and DON’T over run.
The start times and locations vary accordingly (or start at the 12mile route but just walk the last bit back as a warm down).

The route again will go along the cliff path before going up behind Rottingdean and up around Castle Hill National Reserve. IF YOU have paid for a plan, you will be able to see the route on http://www.mapmyrun.com if you are a friend of FbBootcamp.

WHICHEVER MILEAGE YOU DO PLEASE COMMENT BELOW AND TELL US SO WE ARE AWARE OF WHO IS COMING.

From sea to downs, Sunday 22nd July, 8.30am

Well done to our new runners on Wednesday night, and we look forward to welcoming you to this, your first Sunday run.

For the beginners, don’t panic, as this training run will be a lovely flat route from Hove out towards the marina and back.  We are aiming for 2.5 -3.5 miles but it’s easy to turn back when you are ready.

We will have our running ambassadors on hand to help you with your technique – and to help keep you motivated. They’ve all been where you are and many have trained with England Athletics so they are perfectly placed to help you.

For our intermediate and advanced runners training for the Firle Half Marathon, and Lake Garda races, there will be a 7-8mile and 10mile choice.

These will go up and over the undulating cliffs towards Rottingdean before heading up and out over the Downs and returning back to the seafront for a final pacey finish.

PLEASE COMMENT HERE IF YOU ARE COMING. ALSO FOR THOSE WHO DID NOT READ THE POST REGARDING NET WEEKENDS RUN, FOR THIS WEEK ONLY WE WILL BE DOING OUR LONGER RUN ON SAT.

Sunday 8th July, Messing about on the river

There’s always someone to run with and keep you going!

It is also an out and back route so it is simple to find your way back, making it suitable for any distance from 3miles and up.

We will be leading groups doing 6miles and 9.3miles but if you want to go shorter, please come along but let us know by commenting here.

In fact, all comment here if you are coming and also if you need a lift.

P is for….Pace training, Weds 4th July

Pace with post yoga stretching

Whether you are a beginner who wants to try our run session for the first time, or an experienced FitBitch runner then this training will work for you.

We will stay in one place and run out and back so newbies will get the chance to build their distance with a recovery period in between.

Experienced FitBitch runners, this session will be working you in different heart rate zones. This will help challenge and develop your running fitness.

And if you are preparing for any one of our races (Lake Garda, Spartan Beast, Firle, Parkrun, etc) it will  get you used to working on a pace to help you gain a race time that you would like to aim for.

If you would like to work on this, then please visit the site, Cool Running first, enter your race distance and a time that you hope to aim for and come with that pace in mind so we can work on this (bring your running watches if you have – I have a spare if not).

Please also bring skipping ropes if you have them. We have some spares.

Beginners, don’t be put off by all this running geekery!

Please comment here if you are coming.

Training for an event is one of the best ways to keep in shape over the summer, and if you’re new to running, the most effective way to build your distance. Why?

1. You start training with a group of women all at the same level as you – they won’t let you not turn up to training!

2. It’s fun to train in the summer. Less rain, more sunshine, no snow.

3. Your reward is not just a medal with a ribbon around it. It’s cocktails on the edge of Lake Garda in the sunshine afterwards!

5. There’s gelato. Lots of it.
