Hill interval training. Wednesday 9th October.

Reaching new heights

Reaching new heights

We’ve just had a fabulous Fitbitch weekend of running and there’s plenty more to come.  Next up is the Amsterdam half marathon followed by the Brooks 10k. Whether or not you are training for one of these events our Wednesday sessions are suitable for all levels of runners. This week it’s a hill session which benefits all runners, even if you’re training for a flat race.

Hill running improves the strength and endurance of the quadriceps, hip flexor and hip extensor muscle groups—so the increased ability of these muscle groups to resist fatigue (lactic acid) shows through in the latter stages of races. You’ll slow down less, improving your race times or completing a race more comfortably. Whatever your goal is, you’ll reap the benefits if you include hill training in your programme.

MEET: Peter Pan playground (next to yellowave). Madeira Drive.

TIME: 7:30 – 8:30 pm

A flat seafront run. Sunday 6th October.

Seaside running.

Seaside running.

What? FitBitch are doing a run on flat ground! Okay, there is a slight hill in the route but compared to our usual off-road runs, you won’t even notice. The two distances are 13.5 and 4 miles. The flat routes will give you the opportunity to work on pace and build confidence for the Amsterdam half marathon or the Brooks 10k. Our long run finishes directly up from the Saltdean undercliffs where the Rise 8k will be taking place. You can absorb the atmosphere but unfortunately we’ll be missing out on their amazing goodie bags!

While we will try to accommodate newcomers and regulars alike, these longer distance runs of 10 and more miles are NOT suitable if you can not demonstrate gradual mileage build up recently. If you have been injured and then upped your mileage please email us first before booking.

ALL BOOKINGS TO BE MADE HERE – under Sunday running. Price: £10. Payable online only.

MEET: Saltdean Lido car park.

TIME: 8:15 to start at 8:30

Coach and R/a’s: Kate 07702983744, Karen and Tor.

Sunday running. Beginners or a hilly 10 mile option. 15th September.

Running is never a lonely road with Fitbitch

Running is never a lonely road with Fitbitch

We are offering two distances this week to cater for our Amsterdam half runners and for Brooks 10k and Rise 8k runners. The shorter option is two miles on a flat route which is an out and back run, good for beginners and those starting their Brooks 10k training. This will be on the Undercliffs, starting at the Marina so it’s also a good run to do as part of the Rise 8k training. Covering some of the route of your race is a great way to feel inspired and gain momentum for race day itself. There’s no pressure for pace. Our fantastic Running Ambassador Tor will help you with running tips and techniques and give plenty of encouragement.

The 10 mile route has a combination of terrain and incline and like all of our runs, takes in beautiful scenery. There’s sea and countryside all in one run. We have a lead and a back up runner on this distance so all paces are welcome as long as you are up to the distance and have recently ran at least 9 miles .

ALL BOOKINGS TO BE MADE HERE – under Sunday running. Price: £10. Payable online only.

MEET: Brighton marina. Asda car park. 10 mile runners park in the multi – storey to prevent getting a ticket.

TIME: 8.15 am to start at 8.30.

Coaches. 10 miles: Kate and Melissa. 2 miles: Tor.  Phone contact for the day: 07702983744 (Kate)

Sunday trails and scenic views. August 18th.

Nothing but clouds, air and gossip!

Over the hills and far away.

Running with views over Lewes and the English Channel, passing dew ponds and fields in full bloom. Join us this Sunday to take in the scenery and experience trail running with a fun and friendly bunch of like-minded women.

6 mile option: Following our Amsterdam or Royal Parks training plan? This one is for you and is also open to other runners who have covered similar distance recently. The route is fairly flat until you reach the infamous Snake. You’ll discover how the name came about as you weave up a gradual incline. Don’t worry, you finish on a slight descent.

11 mile option: Bacchus training or building distance? Starting out with the shorter distance for the first 2.5 miles. The route then continues over Swanborough hill before heading through Rottingdean, Ovingdean, Roedean and back to Woodingdean. Valleys, farms, monuments and gossip, all in one run.

PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU CAN NOW PAY IN ADVANCE ONLINE here

We will continue to take drop in payments on the day for the remainder of August but we are phasing this out so come September, all payments should be done online for Weds and Sunday sessions.

For the meantime, please COMMENT HERE IF YOU ARE COMING AND IF NEED A LIFT.

Sunday August 4th. A run with stunning panoramas.

Trail running and sea views.

Trail running and sea views.

This Sunday there’s another popular FitBitch running route that’s slightly flatter than last week. It does start with a hill though. Starting from Hove Park, heading up the copse then on towards Devils Dyke, taking in the sea views as we head back to Hove.

4 miles: (Start of Amsterdam 12 week and Royal Parks 10 week plan)This route is out and back. It starts with an incline which is great training to build up muscle power and tackle hills on future runs. You return the same way, so you get plenty of recovery on the last stretch.

8 miles: Building up from the previous weeks training, the mileage has increased by 1 mile from last week. There are two rather challenging inclines followed by a flatter, faster course on the final stretch. Once again this will give you the opportunity to work on negative splits for a great fitness boosting workout.

Please comment and please note that the DROP IN OPTION CLOSES AT 6PM ON FRIDAY 2ND AUGUST.

MEET: Hove park cafe @ 8.15am for an 8.30 start.

Coaches and R’A’s: Kate 07702983744. Karen and Elspeth.
