Stanmer and beyond, Sunday 15th December

What could be at the end of this trail?

What could be at the end of this trail?

This Sunday we are running seven miles of Stanmer and over Ditchling Beacon. There’s stunning views, woodland trails and some hills. Not all up though, we’ve got a downhill for the way back.

It’s our last Sunday run of 2013 and we’re finishing on one of our favourite routes. It’s slightly challenging in places but gives an added bonus to your half marathon training. Because of the hills and off-road terrain your lower body works harder, recruiting the muscles more with less impact on the joints. Social runners are welcome to join us as long as you are up to this distance on off-road running.

MEET and TIME: First car park on the right as you drive into Stanmer Park from the A27 @ 8.20 am for an 8.30 start

Coaches and R/A’s: Kate (07702 983744), Sarah and Tor

Price, £10, bookable online only. If you need or can offer a lift then please post on our facebook page.

Stanmer Stunner 6 miles, 10th November

Scenery Sunday

Scenery Sundaystanmer

Last week before the Brooks 10k next weekend for some, for others the chance for a beautiful off road route before we lose all the gorgeous autumnal leaves.

This six mile/10k off road route has hills – up and down – so it is ONLY suitable for those who have run this distance recently and are used to off road running.

Don’t forget that our NEW courses for the half marathon and also total beginners starts November 20th so this is the PERFECT opportunity to join us at the start so that you can take part in our off road group runs. We take our responsibility as coaches seriously and would not want to take those not yet ready for off road running for risk of injury.

This week, we will have three different pace groups and you will need to stay with your group throughout – if you’re a little faster than the one you are with please be prepared to wait or loop back.

Location: Stanmer Park, car park on the right as you enter (if you need a lift, please comment below)

Time: 8.20am for a strict 8.30am departure

Coaches: Rachael with RA Lucy and Tor.

Price, £10, bookable online

Sunday at Stanmer – 5 miles. 20th October.

Woodland trails

Woodland trails

Stanmer Park in Autumn is not to be missed for any local runner. The kaleidoscope of bright colours and the crunching under the feet on this woodland route certainly make for a scenic Sunday morning run. The course starts through Stanmer Village before a slow, steady climb. Once you reach the top you will feel invigorated as you wind down through Stanmer woods.

Brooks 10k runners – Having an incline in your training plan will help to keep the muscles conditioned and will make the flat 10k course that bit easier. This is also open to social runners who have recently completed at least 4 miles.

Sunday runs cost £10 and are only bookable online. No cash on the day. Book here

Running support crew: Kate (07702983744) and Tor.

Meet: The first car park on the right as you enter Stanmer from the A27. Time: 8.20 am for a prompt 8.30 start.

Stunning landscapes

Stanmer Park and beyond. Sunday 15th July.

Escape to the country this Sunday

This Sunday we are taking to the woodland trails at Stanmer Park. There are two distances of 7 miles and 10 miles. Both start out together as we will run from Stanmer, through the village and up towards Ditchling Beacon. The 7 mile route loops back with some downhill as the pathway takes you back towards Falmer village. The 10 mile route keeps heading towards Lewes before looping back.

Both distances provide lovely scenery. Running past farms and views over Plumpton as we cover some of The South Downs Way.

Lake Garda 30k and the Firle half are on 7 miles for this week. The Lake Garda marathon is 10 miles. There is no rule that you need to be training for these events to join us. If you are familiar with off-road running or similar distances then come along. Comment with your distance and if you need or can offer a lift. The Stanmer House is now open for Breakfast. Always nice to end a long run with some food, especially if it’s made for you!

Meet: Stanmer Park, entrance off the A27. First car park on the left.

Time: 8:30am

Coaches: Kate 07702983744. Melissa 07894146016. Ambassador: Mel A.

Woodland run. Sunday 1st July. Now meeting at Hove Park Cafe.

If you’ve reached a crossroads then take the FitBitch way.

Join us on a mix of woodland and open land as we run through the beautiful Stanmer Park. Located on the outskirts of Brighton, there is of course some hills! Up and down and up a little bit more. Perfect to work the heart, lungs  and tone the glutes.

There is a choice of two distances.

5 miles: This starts off rather challenging but is worth it for the scenery and the down hill finish. A suitable distance for those who are starting out on the Lake Garda 30k programme, 10k or similar distance runners who want to maintain the mileage and hard work and not forgetting females who can run a flat 4 – 5 miles and would like to train off-road. If you’re not quite there yet but like the sound of these friendly, fitness boosting sessions, we have a beginners programme starting on the 18th July. Less than ten weeks ago we had a group of beginners who haven’t looked back (especially whilst running up hill!) and now they even smile on our training runs. A true inspiration.

8 miles: This route starts off with the 5 miler’s then continues through fields as the shorter route takes a woodland path. There is a great mix of scenery and terrain, passing farm houses and poppy fields, through shaded areas and open land.

Please comment with the distance you intend to do.

Meet: Stanmer Park. Off A27 – past the white houses at the entrance, take the 1st left car park.

Time: 8:30 am

Coaches: Kate 07702983744. Rachael 07855742195. Running ambassador: Tor.

Stanmer Park Stride, Training Sunday 10th

A sunny run makes everything right with the world

Come and join us for a beautiful run through Stanmer Park and beyond.

It is so close to Brighton but many people forget about coming here and it is a great area for off road running, and makes for a pleasant change from seafront.

There will be a five mile route for those training for Friston Forest, which will incorporate some hills (both up and down) and an 8.8mile route for those used to running who would like to go further.

If you are not used to the area, don’t worry as you will not be left as we will  have numerous coaches and running ambassadors on hand to ensure you don’t take a wrong turn.

What to know the route? If you have paid for an annual membership or are currently paying for a package plan you will have access to the route by becoming a friend on map my run and following FitBitchRunning Club.

If you did have a plan but don’t currently, please be aware that you will lose privileges to our bank of runs as this is a subscription only.

PLEASE COMMENT HERE IF YOU ARE COMING. ALSO IF YOU NEED A LIFT OR CAN OFFER A LIFT.

Where to meet: The car park near Stanmer church (not our usual meeting spot!) which is up the main road into the park. Link here

Time: 8.30am

Drop in: £5

Coaches: Rachael & Melissa

Running Ambassador: Melanie Lankester

Stanmer Park run. Sunday 20th May.

Even in the rain, there’s always smiles.

We may finally be blessed with some sunshine for our woodland run on Sunday. Stanmer Park is the perfect location to mix up the terrain and vary the distances. Friston Forest runners, this might be your first off road experience and I am certain you’ll be hooked. The scenery is stunning, making you feel completely out of the city. Hills and trail running are an excellent way to condition the muscles and give the joints a rest from the pavement pounding.

For our shorter routes of 3 and 4 miles we have Tor our running ambassador who is always very motivating and has been there as a beginner to hill running not so long ago. I can’t guarantee you’ll be getting a piggy back but Tor will encourage and wait for every runner doing this distance.

The longer route of 7.5 miles is going further towards Ditchling Beacon before back into the park. Both distances do have some flat road and downhill. See, we are considerate to you.

If you can offer or require a lift then please mention it in your comment.
