River Run, Sunday 24th March, 8.30am

Friendly faces

Friendly faces

PLEASE SCROLL TO POST BELOW FOR DETAILS OF THIS WEDS TRAINING SESSION

We’ve worked a lot on hills in the last few weeks of Sunday sessions, so this weekend, we’re taking to the river for a flat route, perfect to help you focus on technique.

This is also a great opportunity for those who are a little behind in their mileage to catch up, as both the 6 and 9mile route follow the same path, with the 6mile turning back sooner.

Those wanting to run a little further in the shorter distance can do so, until they meet with the front of the 9mile group on their return.

We are short on staff this week so we ask all our runners for understanding this weekend. Fast runners may need to loop back with their ambassador to ensure those at the back don’t fall too far behind (or be prepared to wait and catch up). We will brief you all at the beginning of the run.

This is a perfect run for those currently not training for something but who would like to run in a group.

PLEASE COMMENT HERE IF YOU ARE COMING (marathon training group route will be posted later this week). PLEASE BE PROMPT – arrive with plenty of time to park, sign in and pay. Groups leave on the run at 8.30am.

6miles: Ambassador Elspeth

9miles: Ambassador Mel Lankester

Please note, this was closed a few months ago so you may need to park in surrounding streets where there is plenty of room

Stunning scenic run, Sunday 17th March, 8.30am

Happy Sunday running

Jump, smile and run.

Don’t miss our next Sunday, particularly if you are training for the BlueBell 10k or 10mile as building your mileage gradually, and your hill training is important.

Choose from 6miles (those training for 10k) or 8.5miles (training for 10miles) or if you’re new to us, come along and join us for a social run.

It will start from Hove Park, with a flat route before heading up to the Downs and returning to the park. Those on the longer route will finish with a pacey lap to help focus the mind on race strategy – and just because it’s good to finish on a high!

Our marathon group hit 19miles this week and the advantage of going long? You get to enjoy so much scenery and this route has it all. Sea, river and the downs.

It is a hilly route but where there is an up, there is a down to help you stretch out your legs.

The routes have been chosen to avoid any open fields where it will be very soggy after the snow. BUT trail shoes are probably preferable if you have them.

PLEASE COMMENT IF YOU ARE COMING. ANY NEW MARATHON RUNNERS WISHING TO JOIN US PLEASE EMAIL INFO@FITBITCHBOOTCAMP.COM FIRST

Running etiquette: Please note that we leave at 8.30am from the start so be there with time to get yourself ready and pay your drop in fees.

Please do not run ahead of the coach, or if you do stay within sight. Those running in the middle, if you lose sight of the front runner, you MUST wait for the ambassador bringing up the back so you don’t get lost.

8 & 6mile route please meet at Hove Park Cafe. 8mile route will be led by Melissa, 6mile by Kate. Running ambassador: Elspeth (group dependent on size)

Drop in: £7

Marathon group: Please meet Marrocco’s Cafe, Hove Seafront 8.30am

Our route will follow along the seafront to Shoreham, along the river and then up over the downs finishing at the cafe for an optional breakfast.

Pace, conditioning & Injury prevention, Weds 10th October

The Grid Roller – the ‘hardest’ version

Whether you are jetting off with us to Lake Garda this week, part of our Brooks team, a Rise runner looking for their next goal, or simply someone who would like to join us for the first time, this session is suitable for all.
This Wednesday will be a mixture of conditioning, along with a timed 1k pace run for our newbies. Whether you are fast, medium or slow, it doesn’t matter. Knowing what pace you are now will improve your training, and it will enable you to see how much you have progressed when we next time your 1km in around 8 weeks.

Garda girls, do  not fear. We won’t be tiring out your legs but we will be giving you a workout, both in terms of conditioning and a relaxed pace session. It is good to keep your legs ticking over. If you rest, you rust!

At the end of the session, weather permitting, we will be spending some time on the use of a foam roller. It would be ideal if you can ALL buy one and bring it with you.

If you are planning on making a commitment to running, a foam roller is vital to help prevent injury and only cost around £15. (the one pictured costs more but go to any reputable running shop and they will be able to show you what you need). Not much compared to having expensive massages if you neglect this important part of your training, as essential as actually getting out and running.

Use it correctly, and you could say goodbye to knee pain, calf tightness and the associated plantar issues this can bring. Garda Girls, please bring your rollers too.

Nick Rivett Sport and SweatShop both sell them and provide 10% discount to Fitbitch runners.

Please also bring a skipping rope if you have one, and wear your watch if you have one with a timer.

Pace & Strength Training, Weds 3 Oct

with strength and conditioning even you can jump this high!

To those who attended their first ever Sunday run this week with us, well done! As you will no doubt now realise, having new routes to run and running in a group can make distances seem so much easier.

Now find out how it can also make you run faster.

Whether you are training for Garda, Rise 8k (on Sunday!) Brooks 10k, or are a complete beginner who would like to come for the first time, this session is suitable for all.

It will be a combination of pace and strength and conditioning, particularly for our beginners.

Strengthen the correct muscles and you become more efficient runner, and are less likely to be injured.

Work on running faster than you do normally over shorter distances, and you will also get faster in general.

If you have a yoga mat, or skipping rope then do it bring it to this session. PLEASE COMMENT HERE IF YOU ARE COMING SO WE CAN PLAN THE SESSION ACCORDINGLY AS WE WILL SPLIT GROUPS ACCORDING TO RUNNING BACKGROUND.

Location: the grass adjacent to Hove Street, 30secs walk from King Alfred Centre.

The Endorphin High Session, Weds 5th Sept

get your endorphin fix for the week!

So, we’re all back from holiday and the kids are about to go back to school. You may have the blues but you won’t after this Wednesday’s training session.

We’ll be working on power and pace but don’t worry if you are a beginner, as you will all be put in a group suitable for your level and training.

This session is focused on helping you to improve your speed, which involves more muscle recruitment (more results on your bum – yay!) and means you will burn more calories for longer afterwards (yay again! One way of working off the holiday binge season). And the off shoot of all of this? An endorphin high that will last until the weekend.

If you are training for Garda, you should all be attending these sessions now (or our Sunday’s). And for our Firle runners, this is our last session before race day on Sunday so this will leave you feeling raring to go.

If you have not been to run club before, please come along but arrive 5-10mins early so you can fill out the necessary paperwork.

PLEASE COMMENT HERE IF YOU ARE COMING SO THAT WE PLAN THE SESSION ACCORDINGLY.

Building Distance, Training Sunday 17th June

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Whether you are new to the FitBitch running crew, or part of our friendly group of beginners training for the Friston Forest 10k or Lake Garda girls, come and join us this Sunday 17th for a gorgeous run out near Rottingdean.

Expect to see fields of swaying corn, a riot of red poppies and a lot of chatting Fitbitches as we make our way across the downs above Rottingdean and down around Breaky Bottom vineyard (for some of us on the longer distance) before dropping down to a flat finish along the seafront.

Choose from 6.2miles or 8.8miles.

It’s the Downs, so there are hills but tackling tricky ascents is great for strengthening your legs and those all important glutes for running. Not to mention your mental strength.

Besides, it didn’t stop you all grinning from ear to ear  last Sunday.

PLEASE COMMENT IF YOU ARE COMING SO WE CAN ACCOMADATE YOU ALL. iF YOU WANT TO COME BUT WANT TO DO A SHORTER DISTANCE PLEASE COMMENT HERE.

7 Up…training for Berlin runners &more 7-13miles, Sat 24th March

Please note that Melissa will be taking a training session for beginners and 10k BlueBell Runners and will post this later in the week.

This run is for anyone new to our run club who can already run 7 miles but would like to join a friendly crew on a guided run. And of course,  for our Berlin and 10miles BlueBell running group.

We are moving the training session to Saturday just for this week to reflect the clocks going forward on Sunday.

Although many of you should be following our training plan, we are aware that some of you are a bit behind, or are not necessarily training for anything but still would like a ‘good’ run.

So this week we are putting on a run that will include all the following distances, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 miles.

It means meeting at different locations along the route, and depending on the distance, finishing either back where you started or at Hove seafront by the trampolines.

Complicated? Not really as long as you read this post properly!

12 and 13 miles, Time: 7: 30am, Meet Hove seafront by the trampolines – don’t be late! Link here

11 miles, Time: 7.40am, Meet Brighton Pier, end Hove seafront

10 miles, Time: 7.50am, Meet Marine Drive opposite Arundel Road – Link here

9 miles, Time: 7.40am, Start at Brighton Pier, end at Brighton pier

7 miles, Time: 7.50am, Meet Marine Drive, opp Arundel Road, link above

Please comment if you are coming. If you are on time at each of these locations, you will be fine we won’t go without you. If we are not there on the time specified, we’ll only be a few minutes away.

Coach: Rachael, 07855 742195 – please call me on the day if there are any problems.

Price: £5

The Route? If you wish to look at the route, this is only available to those on a subscription package via a training programme, monthly or annual membership. Is that you? Then friend Fitbitchrunningclub (no spaces) on mapmyrun.com

To give you an idea, it will go along the seafront, over the cliffs towards Rottingdean before looping up over the Downs over Ovingdean before dropping down to the Marina again. It’s undulating. (really…not a huge hill!)
