If you’ve seen our photograpahs of our recent Amsterdam Half Marathon trip on our Facebook page, you will  have seen that training in a group together can make running fun, rewarding and help to ensure you make your distance even when you feel like staying in bed!

Now it’s your chance. Our Brighton Half Marathon training course starts on Weds 20th November.

What do you get:

  • 11 X Weds 7.30pm training sessions incorporating strength training to help prevent injury and make you more efficient

  • A training plan, expert coaching guidance and fun

You can either book the entire course, or just Weds or Sundays. Drop ins will continue to be available for all but the most cost efficient way is to book the course. FULL course, £129 Sundays only £90.

We would also encourage those new to us, to book the course so we can work with you and develop your running with the right degree of attention.

Beauty & the beast training run, Sunday 21st April

time to ditch the thermals?

time to ditch the thermals?

Whether you are a beg-int looking for a fun group to run with, or you are part of our crew training for the beginners Kamikaze Adventure Race, South Downs or Seaford Half Marathon & Tough Mudder foundation runs – you’ll love this Sunday’s training run.

We will be offering a 3miles (beg-int, Kamikaze teams) run, along with a six mile tarmac to off-road route that will go out over Rottingdean to Saltdean and return (longer route) and a small loop for the shorter distance.

It is a beautiful run (and the forecast is for blue skies) but there is a hill – hence the beast!

But our run ambassadors and coaches will ensure we are there to help coax you up the hill – and it will make you stronger.

And for the advanced, faster runners amongst you, we have a twist. …You’ll just have to come along and see what it is!

Drop ins are welcome at £10 but package prices are also available (missed or going to miss a Sunday session the package? use against our yoga classes on Monday).

PLEASE COMMENT HERE IF YOU ARE COMING AND TO WHICH DISTANCE.

Please be on time as we will be leading a dynamic warm up at 8.30am which you will require.

Tempo & Technique, Weds 10th April, 7.30pm

Why? Because it boosts your mood...and your butt too

Why? Because it boosts your mood…and your butt too

We will have two training sessions this week, one for those begs-intermediates training with us for the 10k Heroes Race. And another for our current groups, or those experienced runners who just want to get out and run.

It doesn’t matter what your standard, what your fitness level, nor your speed. Just come and join us.

Our beginners group, who book our 10k package (although you are welcome to pay a drop in price) will be working on running technique, core strength and then some running intervals.

Meanwhile for our experienced runners and those training for BlueBell or the marathon on Sunday, this will be a tempo session (keeping it in check for marathon runners).

Working on tempo, or stamina training, will improve your ability to run at a steady and moderately hard pace over a particular distance.

It will improve your anaerobic system and your body’s ability to deal with that shaky, jelly leg syndrome caused by lactic acid.

You don’t need to bring anything but yourself – and £5 if you are paying a drop in price.

PLEASE COMMENT HERE IF YOU ARE COMING, AND TO WHICH SESSION SO WE CAN ENSURE WE HAVE SUFFICIENT COACHES.

Coaches: Rachael & Melissa

Drop in: £5

Time: 7.30pm

Location: Lawns adjacent to Hove Street South, parking King Alfred centre

Off road beauty, Sunday 24th Feb

IMG_3397

Glorious skies and witty chat on the climbs!

Whether you are still basking in the glow of finishing the Brighton Half Marathon, or simply inspired by watching your friends/partners/total strangers and want to start running yourself, come and join us this Sunday.

For those training for the Bluebell race, or those joining for a social run, there is an option of a four mile or 7mile.

The four mile is suitable for those new to our running club who can currently run 5k.  It would also be good for those who ran last week’s half marathon and would prefer something more gentle.

Please DON’T jump to 7miles (Bluebell 10miles) group if you’re training for 10k.

And for our specialist marathon group,  we start to pick up our distance to 14miles on an undulating route (with a lovely downhill section) that will build your physical and mental endurance.

We finish at Hove Park cafe for coffee.

This is our first trail run for many SO ALL WHO ARE COMING, PLEASE COMMENT HERE SO WE CAN BE SURE TO HAVE THE CORRECT NUMBER OF AMBASSADORS AND COACHES.

Time: 8.30am

Location: Hove Park Cafe

Price: £7 except for Marathon group: £10, for distances over 13miles

Marathon: Melissa, with Karen Russell (N.B if you would like to join our marathon training team on a drop in basis please call Rachael 07855 742195. We are a small group so it’s perfect for those runners who may be feeling isolated or overwhelmed with their current training schedule).

BlueBell & Beginners: Melanie Anning

7mile group: Kate or Rachael, with Elspeth

General etiquette: Please stay with your group when you run. If this means you don’t run with someone you know, start chatting with someone new! This helps us keep you safe, and on the right track.

Stuck in the middle of a group and not noticed where the front leaders have gone? Don’t guess. Wait for our ambassador at the back of the group.

Conditioning & Release, Weds 13th Feb

AT the BlueBell run last year

Correct conditioning & foam rolling ensures you look this happy when you run

In a change to the training plan for many of you, this week we are going to be focusing on exercises to ensure the ‘switching’ on of the correct muscles for running, as well as foam rolling for performance and injury rehab.

This session is suitable for everyone from beginners to the advanced. Before conditioning with weights or loading with speed, the foundations –  ensuring the right muscles (for most of us female runners, the glute or butt muscles as most of us know them) are firing.

This then sets the correct chain of muscle activation to help ensure injury free running, upon which strength, speed and improved  performance can be built.

And for our Brighton Half Marathon and Marathon crew,  as well as our newbies, the foam rolling element will help free your body up ready for this weekend’s race.

We will be working on all these aspects this Wednesday so please purchase and bring a foam roller with you. You can get these at SweatShop on Queens Road, Brighton and many local sports stores. (SS offer 10% off for Fitbitches so please mention  us).

The best one to get is The Grid, but a simple foam type (15cms by 45cms or 15cms by 90cms) will suffice for new runners.  (and all of you reading this thinking, ‘I’ll just go and watch and then decide if I need to buy one,’ you WILL need one and should be using it  regularly. )

Wrap  up warm with lots of layers. You will be working but it will not be the same as a sprint session.

PLEASE NOT THERE IS NO SUNDAY TRAINING RUN THIS WEEK DUE TO THE HALF MARATHON.

PLEASE COMMENT HERE IF YOU ARE COMING. IF YOU HAVE JUST PURCHASED A PACKAGE, PLEASE BRING A REFUNDABLE £5 DEPOSIT FOR A BRACELET AND TELL US YOUR TSHIRT SIZE.

Time: 7.30pm

NEW RUNNING COURSE

For runners starting their training for  10k and 10miles, we’ll be doing a flat, seafront 3.5miles run meeting at 8.30am on the seafront in front of King Alfred’s car park.

Half and Marathon Training Group: 13.5miles and 12miles

Get ready for a scenic stunner, heading out along River Adur, around Bamber Castle and back.

Unlike our previous runs in this area we will be keeping to the right hand side of the river going out, using the Link route to avoid the mud ( But this is the country, there will be mud once we head off this Link path so wear trail shoes if you have them!)

This weekend’s run will be working on race simulation, so we will be attempting to pick up the pace. Both groups will run together, with the half marathon group doing the final 1.5miles into Shoreham by Sea to finish.

PLEASE NOTE – because we are working on pace this weekend, we ask all those who typically run at the back of the group to meet at 8am. We will be starting earlier to give you time to work on your speed. If you are unsure whether you fit into this category, please call RAchael 07855 742195.
