Taper, Hills and Social, Sunday 9th October

The end goal! Cream Tea House

Whether you are just starting out and looking to build your distance, or you are part of the FitBitch Run Club heading to Palma next week for the 10k and Half Marathon, this Sunday’s run is for you.

For those doing the half marathon next week (or anyone else who wants to build their distance with a longer run) we will be doing 12.5kms. At this stage, NO ONE doing Palma should be going over this distance as we are in the taper phase of training. This is as important as the last 12-16 weeks of training. It allows your body and muscles to be in the perfect condition for race day.

10k runners and first timers to our Sunday runs (unless you are already conditioned to run long or the 10k lot want to go longer) join us in our shorter 6km run. It does have hills so it will add another dimension to your training.

Whichever route you decide upon please COMMENT HERE so we know to expect you. Please read on below for information about where each group will meet and time as they differ.

For all who are interested we will head to Rottingdean for a recovery cream tea (well, it’s protein and carbs right?!) after the run at The Trellis, Rottingdean High Street.
They serve savoury slightly less calorific stuff too!

Long Route
Meet: Tesco Car Park, Rottingdean (you’ll need 2hrs on parking meter to be on the safe side)
Time: 8.30am
Runner: Rachael or Kate

Short Route
Meet: Outside Saltdean lido (you can park here)
Time: 9am
Runner: Rachael or Kate

Confused about where the meeting location is? Look at the route first, compare with street map or Google maps. Still can’t figure it out. OK, then you can phone!

Speed or Distance? Sunday 2nd October, 8.30am

So many running choices!

Fancy a long, endurance run of the carrot and stick approach? This Sunday, those looking for a long run join us in running from Brighton Pier to Lewes with breakfast at Bills to finish (trains from Lewes run every 15-20mins back to Brighton. Check out http://www.trainline.co.uk).
For those who are training with the club for the Palma Half Marathon, this will be the last long distance run before we taper. If you are new to the club and regularly run this distance, come along. Everyone is welcome.

Don’t panic if 21kms sounds like way more than you can take on right now (it is for lots of people!) Our second group will be running 10k on a nice, flat route along the seafront from Hove to Shoreham and back. For those training for Palma, you are aiming to do this at pace (your coach will be instructed to keep you focused!). Other runners who are just looking at building distance take it slowly.

WHICHEVER RUN YOU CHOOSE, PLEASE COMMENT HERE SO WE CAN ENSURE WE GET ENOUGH RUNNING COACHES SUITED TO RUNNING EXPERIENCE PER GROUP. THIS ALLOWS US TO GIVE YOU THE BESPOKE EXPERIENCE FOR WHICH WE ARE RENOWNED BUT WE NEED A LITTLE BIT OF FEEDBACK TO ENSURE WE CAN PLAN FOR THE GROUP.

BILLS BREAKFAST – Also, please comment if you are coming for breakfast. The lovely Lou of Bills will sort out our table for us but I need to know numbers ASAP.

And shorter distance, don’t worry about missing out on the social this week. Next week is a shorter Downs run for all which will end with a Rottingdean Cream Tea. So put it in your diary now!

An alternative: Want to go short but on the Downs? YOu can join the longer group at Rottingdean and follow us for a shorter route, turning to return when you have reached the distance you wish to do. Please email us direct if you wish to do this.

What better reason to learn to run?

Running? what running...on the way to Paris-Versailles 16k

Want to know the secret to learning to run further? Enter a race and give yourself a target.
It really is that simple. In the last eight months, our running club has seen women go from zero to half marathon distance in four months. All of these women accomplished their goals simply because they took the plunge.
It may seem scary, intimidating and totally out of your comfort zone but that’s why it is so effective.
Of course, at FitBitch Running Club we like to make our ‘targets’ a bit more enticing than just crossing a finish line.
Instead of just entering any old race, we go for those abroad. Somehow, the appeal of a run with a fantastic weekend away always does the trick!

All dreaming of the Lisbon custard tarts on the finish line

So far, we’ve been to Paris and Lisbon and this October, we’re heading to Palma in Majorca to take part in the half marathon.
Don’t panic if you’ve never even run 10k as we’ll be running a 16 week training programme for ALL levels, starting Sunday 26th June which will take you right up to the actual race day on 16th October.
We have two runs per week, Wednesday night, 7pm and Sunday 8.30am along with the rest of the running club. There will be a number of FitBitch trainers so you will get the support you need over a distance that is right for you.
That said, you will need to do your own runs outside of this time in accordance with your training plan, which will be included in our exclusive training package. But you don’t have to worry about running alone – follow us on Twitter and you’ll find some fellow runners.
The price is £60, including a training plan for 16 runs (either one a week or however you want to use them) or £100 for a 32 week option of two runs per week. All programmes will include a generalised training plan for either beginners, intermediate or advanced levels.
Don’t fancy a half marathon but like the idea of a weekend away with a shorter run? There is also an option to run 10k which starts on the same route as the half so you can be part of the overall event without having to put quite so much training in!
You will need to register individually for the race http://www.tui-marathon.com/_eng/anmeldung/anmeldung2_en.html
Also, please book your flights yourself and let us know via the comment box below which you choose.
The best options are with EasyJet leaving from LGW on Friday 14th October and returning either the afternoon on Monday 17th (£112) or first thing Tuesday 18th October (£108).
Personally, I’m for the Tuesday option. Come join the FitBitch crew and your running will be transformed.
Package pay options will be available soon on the main FitBitch Boot Camp website.
